Head off the beaten track on a European walking tour

Walking with Great Rail Journeys is about enjoying scenic walks and excursions on one memorable holiday. Our collection features landscapes for all interests - from coasts, rivers and lakes to rolling countryside and mountain views (but no summits!)
Explore the rugged Catalan coast, Italy's Lake Maggiore and Anzasca Valley and the spellbinding Austrian Tyrol. Alternatively, combine a discovery of Swiss mountains with a journey on the iconic Glacier Express, or experience the charm of France in Provence and among the vineyards of Burgundy.
Each tour includes two or three guided walks, showing you the lesser-known side of your destination at a slower pace. Your experience is further elevated with excursions to unmissable highlights - all with the comfort and expertly crafted itineraries you'd expect from a GRJ Classic holiday.

With two decades of expertise in creating award-winning walking holidays, our Product Specialist Karl Watson has worked with local guides and experts to uncover the very best routes. Karl has walked every step, fine-tuning each detail, to ensure you experience the best views and uncover hidden treasures.
One of the main benefits of a GRJ walking tour is that you're supported throughout. A dedicated Tour Manager will escort your group on the holiday from departure to return. All our walks are guided by local experts so you're free to soak up the views of some of Europe's most beautiful regions.
We've planned these tours to include two guided options for every walk to cater for differing levels of ability and fitness. Both options are usually in the same area, so everyone has the same experience, but one is usually longer and more challenging. All our walks are graded on a scale of 1-5 (1 being the easiest) to help guide you.
We want you to enjoy the joys of walking and meeting like-minded people, so each group will have a maximum of 24 people and a Tour Manager. With a choice of two options on each walking day, it's likely that each will have between 6-18 people, but this will vary and is subject to customers' choice of walk.
Choosing the right holiday and grade for your ability is essential for your enjoyment and safety. All our walking holidays are designed for our Level 4 Active Adventurers. You will be an active person more than capable of walking the distances and ascents, descents and types of terrain described for the walk options.
