Ghent

Ghent is the fourth largest city in Belgium. Home to quaint cobbled streets and winding canals, the city is lesser known than the other cities in Belgium and probably doesn't get the recognition and appreciation that it deserves. Considering the region's turbulent history, particularly during the first half of the 20th century, a surprising amount of Ghent's remarkable medieval architecture survives today. There are over 900 listed buildings, a testament to the city's wealth in medieval times, thanks largely to it being Europe's largest cloth producer. At one time Ghent was the Continent's largest city outside Paris.
